Seminar Overview
The vehicle is becoming a software platform, and the traditional engineering organization is not built for it. This seminar explains the software-defined vehicle: the move from distributed ECUs to central compute, service-oriented architectures, over-the-air updates, and the standards (AUTOSAR Adaptive, some/IP, DDS, UDS) that govern it. Taught by experts in vehicle software and controls, it gives polymers and mechanical engineers the vocabulary and architecture insight to work in a software-defined world — complementing ETS's hardware-first portfolio.
Ideal Learner
- Mechanical and materials engineers moving into software-defined programs
- EE, software, and architecture engineers on next-gen platforms
- Program and systems managers coordinating Zonal/domain architectures
- Packaging and thermal engineers integrating central compute
- Engineers needing the SDV/AUTOSAR vocabulary
Learning Objectives
- Explain the software-defined vehicle architecture shift and central compute/Zonal model
- Map AUTOSAR Classic vs. Adaptive platforms and their roles
- Apply service-oriented communication (SOME/IP, DDS) concepts
- Understand OTA update architecture and its engineering demands
- Coordinate cross-functional (EE + mechanical) SDV program work
Consulting Sessions
Seminar attendees can sign up for individual consulting sessions with the instructor. Sessions are free for registered attendees, first-come first-served — sign up when registering by calling 248-539-0473 or during the seminar.
Seminar Outline
- From distributed ECUs to central/Zonal compute
- Why the business model changed (OTA features, subscriptions)
- What it means physically: compute, power, thermal, packaging
- Zonal and domain architectures
- Central compute, high-speed networks
- Convergence of compute into fewer, bigger units (thermal challenge)
- Classic: deterministic, safe, real-time
- Adaptive: POSIX, service-oriented, dynamic
- Choosing platform by function
- SOME/IP and DDS service communication
- Time-Sensitive Networking and determinism
- Diagnostics and UDS in the software-defined era
- Update architecture, rollback, and security
- Managing a fleet of moving software
- Engineering obligations and liability
- Attendees architect a software-defined feature end-to-end
- Map EE + packaging + electrical + thermal demands
- Present the cross-functional program plan
