Seminar Overview

The mold surface is a system: steel treatment, coating, release agent, and the polymer against it — and fouling is a four-body chemistry problem, not a housekeeping issue. This private/channel seminar (delivered with ChemTrend) teaches mold surface science end-to-end: why buildup forms (deposition chemistry, thermal history, additive migration), release-agent families and their selection logic, mold-surface engineering (texturing, coatings, cleanliness), and the part-design interaction — where draft, depth, and surface area decide whether release works at all.

The format is the co-delivery model validated against the machinery-channel play: ETS teaches the part-design and surface-science frame, ChemTrend teaches release chemistry and product selection — delivered to ChemTrend's processor customers as a value-add that deepens their account relationships. The PFAS-free release-agent transition supplies the market hook: regulations are forcing reformulation across the industry, and processors need the science, not a sales deck.

Open-enrollment courses compete for seats; this one is deliberately private: a channel SKU that makes ChemTrend's customers better engineers while anchoring ETS's relationship with the machinery channel.

Ideal Learner

  • Molding process engineers and supervisors (delivered via ChemTrend channel)
  • Tooling engineers fighting fouling and release issues
  • Quality engineers chasing appearance defects
  • ChemTrend processor customers: molders across automotive, medical, packaging

Learning Objectives

  • Explain fouling mechanisms: deposition chemistry, additive migration, thermal history
  • Select release agents per material, mold surface, and paintability requirement
  • Apply mold-surface engineering: texturing, coatings, cleanliness protocols
  • Identify part-design levers that make release reliable
  • Navigate the PFAS-free transition with a defensible selection process

Consulting Sessions

Seminar attendees can sign up for individual consulting sessions with the instructor. Sessions are free for registered attendees, first-come first-served — sign up when registering by calling 248-539-0473 or during the seminar.

Seminar Outline

  • Steel, treatment, coating, agent, polymer: five players
  • Fouling mechanisms: deposition chemistry and thermal history
  • Additive migration: slip, stabilizers, colorants as fouling agents
  • Release-agent families and their selection logic
  • Application: dose, frequency, buildup feedback loops
  • Paintability and secondary-operation compatibility
  • The PFAS-free transition: what changes, what's honest about it
  • Texturing and its release consequences
  • Coatings: what they do and when they pay
  • Cleanliness protocols that actually prevent buildup
  • Draft and depth as release variables
  • Surface-area and rib/boss geometry effects
  • Gate location and its surface consequences
  • Workshop: diagnose a fouling/appearance case end-to-end
