4/2 Automotive Plastic Part Design

This three day in-depth automotive seminar will provide information on material selection, design procedures, processing techniques, and the assembly methods required when designing with plastics in the automotive field.

Attendees will focus on what to expect from a polymeric material and discuss in detail how to make the design process as easy as possible and fully comply with FMVSS. In addition, this course will enable the automotive OEM and his supplier (1st, 2nd, or 3rd-tier) to have more effective communication. The OEMs will learn how to initiate their concepts on a solid, communal basis, thus allowing for cost-efficiencies and fewer second thoughts when they understand the scientific basis, and the fine tuning that comes with experience. A large number of automotive case histories will explain the step-by-step procedures to successful and robust designs.

5/2 Parametric Modeling in Java

This one day workshop is intended to give industrial designers and engineers the skills necessary to express their design concepts through code.

They will learn how to generate 3D meshes and adjust specifications with minimal effort by adopting an object-oriented approach to coding. Once finalized, students will be able to export their design into a 3D printer-friendly format for fabrication.

Students will build their very own parametric modeling program in Java with Processing.org. Processing is a free open-source programming language, user community, and development environment built on Java. The final output will be exportable as an Android app, JavaScript web app, or standalone desktop application.

5/9 Designing Embedded Systems Through Microcontrollers

The world is becoming more and more connected every day. The Internet of Things is becoming adopted by industries and the notion of everything being always on and always connected is starting to seem inevitable.

In this class we will explore the popular open source electronics platform called Arduino. Students will learn how to manipulate inputs and outputs through code and build intuitive, interactive interfaces with an emphasis on cloud connectivity.
